Unit 30: AS4 Task Five- Finished product Re-Draft

Task Four - Finished Product
Final Evaluation

The advertisement we did was based on one of the most popular products from the company Apple which is the iPhone 5s. We chose to do this because we thought we could show the audience why the iPhone is so useful. The advert target audience for this advert is a 17+, so that the iPhone can sell as much iPhone's as possible to anyone. The selling point of the advert is the usage of the phone which can interest the audience for example checking the bus times, using a torch light etc.

Once I finished shooting the advertisement, I would then hold a focus group to show my advertisement. The focus group method is in the section of qualitative research were I would receive helpful feedback from the target audience. The questions that I asked were "do you like the advert and why?" this was asked because I would want to know if they did like or not and I asked why for their reason which will be understandable. I also asked "is the advert effective?" I asked this to see if its interesting to anyone. Lastly, I asked "what improvements could I make for the advert?" this was asked because I wanted to hear from the audience what alterations. And the answers I received from the focus group were really helpful to understand how I could have made an exceptionally good advert.

What I found out from the advertisement I made by the audiences feedback is that, they like how "it shows how you can use the iPhone's features". This was  a good piece of feedback as it interests the audience as my advert does show how useful it was. Furthermore, when I asked if the advertisement needed any improvements and the responses that I got were "you needed a female character because it may alienate the female audience". This feedback comment in my personal mind is the most useful comment because in an advert I wouldn't like to leave out any type of audience out, it would leave the advert in a bad name. The questions why I asked was very useful, because I want to show the audience and ask them acceptable questions to see if I produce an exceptional advert.

In my own opinion, I think I released a good advertisement by showing how the iPhone 5s is a useful smartphone and why people should own the phone. The improvements I could make is, to place more and different time events show it would show that its suitable anytime and anywhere you go, and add more characters for different scenes. I really agree with the target audience were saying,
if I was to make the alterations that they think would be good for the advertisement then I would, then I would be even happier because then I can come out with a better advert then it is now.

The video was technically good as the camera was very steady, with the help of the tripod. Also, it was clear for the audience to view, when we were in the classroom we had to put the blinds down and turn on the lights so that the viewers can see the characters reactions and interactions properly. I don't think it will successfully sell, if I was to see this advert I wouldn't be very shocked about the features because we didn't really show the features that could wow the audience and leave them interested the whole entire advert. Apart from that, I think this was a great idea for an advert to try and make the viewer think that using the iPhone is fun and it makes your life so much more easier.

To summarize this advertisement, the improvements that I could make is to add a female character this would then not alienate the female audience and stop them from preventing themselves from using the smartphone. Also, is to add quick scenes that will keep the viewer interested in this advert by showing them the things that the iPhone has that other phones don't which can "wow" the audience. Furthermore, we can be in different places instead of one area like in and around our schools area, instead we could go to the bus stop, go to McDonalds etc.

To conclude this I feel like haven't reach my aim, but I have to some degree by showing what the iPhone can do. But I feel that more needed to be seen because I feel that what was shown on the advert is that I showed what any other smartphone can do that was on the iPhone, but I didn't show what the iPhone can do that no other phone can which will make the iPhone unique in its own way. Overall, I am satisfied with what we have got with the iPhone that we showed what it can truly do and that it can be exceptional to show.

Unit 30: AS4 Task Three - Present the results

Task Three  - Present the results

On Task 2 I posted why the focus group was useful for me and along side that I posted the video of my focus group screening. In this task I am going talk about what I found out in the focus group. Firstly, I found out that the majority of the audience did like the advert when I asked if they did or did not like the advert. One of the students said in the target audience "it shows the different features of the iPhone and how it is used". I also received some very insightful feedback, one of the adults in the target audience said that I need to include female characters. In our advert it didn't include any females in it, this can alienate the female audience which can bring a bad reputation of this advert. This was when I asked what needs to be improved about this advert. Lastly, another adult answered to the same question, that in the last scene of the advert it would need to have more shots for the advert to be more interesting instead of having one shot. Overall I really find these feedbacks really useful so if I was to ever come to this project again I would need to remember what I did wrong and make my advert better than I did last time.

Unit 30: AS4 Task Two – Screening

Task Two – Screening

This video is my screening research, in this I gathered other students and teachers to give me insightful feedback and asked them a couple of questions after I have showed the audience my advertisement. This method I used was the focus group method, which is qualitative research. The good thing about this method is that I get to hear about what the audience think about the advert, whether it needs alterations and also whether they think it is good. Furthermore, I think this method is simple rather than holding a survey about the advert which will be boring, the way I held the focus group was pretty quick. The range of the audience I grabbed were a few adults and a few students in this. There was a couple of men as there were for women. The questions were closed but I asked them "why" for a reason from them, because it helps to know why they like it or not. My feedback is reliable because the audience watch the advert and they answer the questions with honesty, if it was a survey it may not as be reliable because the audience that take the survey could possibly lie.

Unit 30:Task One – Sources of Information AS4

Task One – Sources of Information

The pre-production documents really played a big part of our advertisement, these documents were helpful in terms of getting us prepared to get everything in order.

For instance:

The Storyboards - this will help us to know what next shot we would need to take for our advert, the storyboard would also help us with where the location of where its going to take place, which would be suitable for scene. For our next project the same thing applies how the storyboard will be planned.

The Shooting Schedule - this will notify when it will be suitable for us to go and film the advert, this is useful because we can check out whether a classroom is available at that time so we would set a date and time, so we can be able to film our project. Just like the storyboards, the same thing will happen for the next project, we will find a location and check if its available to use.

The Budget - this balances how much we should spend on the equipment, food etc. So we would research the price of all of these things, to see whether its affordable or not. For our next project we will be more wise with our budget spending it on things we would need like the clothes for different scenes.

The Risk Assessment - this source of information will help us know what could happen around the place we are going to, if one of our crew members was to trip over the tripod which is part of our primary equipment, and that member was to severely injure themselves, we would call the ambulance. The risk assessment also tells if the hazard is most likely to happen and how we can prevent the hazard from harming anyone. I believe that there is no improvements needed for this document, this will be used for our next project as it is very important.

The Contingency Plan - this information will helps our crew come up with a plan b, for example if I wanted to film outside and it was raining our crew would run inside and prepare the scenes we have to do inside and worry about the scene we have to do outside another time. This is useful because us as a crew would not be stuck with what we have to do, we will continuously know what we will have must do.

The Location Visit - this is where we set up a time for where we shall meet up. This document is useful because our crew would come together to the location to film. The improvements of this document is to put more information about the health and safety issues and more filming problems that we may not think of.

The Call Sheet - this source is used for each and every single scene, helps the crew know who is doing what at the location chosen by us. This helps our crew to know our role of what we do for every single scene. For our next project the same plan for this sheet applies.

Props and Costumes - This helps us to wear what would be suitable for the scene for every single character. This informs all the actors what type of clothes they should wear for the advert. Like most of these sheets the same plan applies to this sheet for the next project.

Lastly, Contact Details - this contains every single members number of the crew. This is useful because one of the members may need to make a phone call from the crew to call in a different member to phone them where they are.

The most useful pre-production document is most useful is the contact details because as a crew we will need each other to film what we would need to film. The least useful document was the location visits because most of the time we are together and we can film wherever and whenever. The document that really needs to be improved is the contingency because we would need to think of other plans we could have thought of into proceeding into completing the advertisement.

Unit 30 AS3 Task 2 Production

Unit 30 AS3 Task 2 Production

Our production was on point and serious about this advertisement, in terms of signing out our equipment, and while shooting everything we were getting the work done. The equipment we signed out to use for the advertisement was the camera and the tripod.

Every time before we would take a shot of a video we would do a run through shot of the scene, also we made sure the lighting was just right for the camera so it can pick up the characters faces. For example while we were shooting a scene in the classroom there would be windows with blinds, and the camera would face the blinds while the scene is going on and if the blinds were not covering the window the characters face would not be scene.

Sound, to make sure the characters were heard properly there was a built in microphone on the camera and it senses sound, while we do our run-throughs we would look at the bar to check if the camera can pick up the sound. When we record the scene we would check it over to see if the sound was good enough, if not then we would do the scene again.

The times where I would instruct the actors and crew members is when we have to tell them they have to do, and if we can't clearly hear what they are saying then we will tell them to speak up. If the actors scenes are great we would shoot the scene again just for safety. The crew members help out to set up the camera angles where the camera is best to shoot the actors.

When we planned to shoot the advert in the streets, our crew would make sure that people would not be in the shot, also we had to worry about cars driving past on the road and obviously, to be cautious with where we walk, also to not somehow trip over the tripod.

Video Editing
Once I got all the footage for the video, I then upload it to final cut express where I edit all of my videos. In this I make sub clips from each scene we shot to make it into one big advertisement. While editing I would add the music, by importing the file. This would fit the advert in the background of while the scenes were going on. While the sequence was going on from scene to scene I would have to use an effect so that the advert can flow nicely which was the fading effect. Once I was done editing the video, I had to then export the whole video file to the correct format so the video would be able to upload onto youtube.
